Which ones are real and which ones just want your money

I decided to give my husbands idea of starting an online business a shot. I have never been into this whole internet thing too much. Oh, I could check and send email. I also could find info that I needed for my children's church lessons and crafts. As far as going into business, well that was a different story altogether. My husband is one of those guys who is always looking for "THE OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME". I am not one of those people. Oh don't get me wrong, he's a great guy and I love him dearly, but that is who he is. Me, I'm very cynical about anything that says you can make money and it's not an hourly job. Sorry, but that's the way I grew up.

So, I've been looking into online marketing and website sales. I decide that the best way is to have my own website. I could sell anything I want, I can market other websites, etc... Sounds good to me! All I have to do is set it all up. :) That was my first mistake. Man, after that, it was another mistake after another, and so on. My husband started looking into these offers that would set you up with your own website and give you everything you would need to get one started. All for only $39.95! Sound familiar? I tried several of them. We even found one that we both thought would be a great opportunity. By the way, I just finished fighting it out to get my money back using their "Full Money Back Guarantee, No Questions Asked" policy. The others we tried, of course, didn't work, but we didn't have trouble getting our money back. We finally found one that doesn't cost as much and they don't tell us to do things that are illegal or against the publishers "Terms & Conditions".

So far, I've learned quite a bit about designing, layouts, content, links, and even publishing a website. Now I am learning that I cannot really do this all by myself. No matter what any company promises, there are things that us laymen can't do on the internet. If someone says they can, then they are more than just a layperson. I can publish a website, that's not hard. Getting it listed with ALL or MOST of the search engines, AND getting it listed on the first page. That's the really big thing. That's a lot harder than these companies are willing to tell you. Well, at least until you get started with them and you've put in money and time. That's when they zap you with that information.

I found that I can start my own website TOTALLY FREE with ruthsplace.weebly.com. I haven't gotten that one published yet. I will update you on my progress as I go through it. I also found a website that I can actually make money on. It is published but not completed by a long shot. You can see it (such that it is) at Laptops And More. This website will be revamped in about a week or so. I discovered that the old saying, "It takes money to make money" is very true.

I take care of my 5 month old granddaughter while my daughter works. I plan on keeping this updated on whats going on with my websites, but it kind of depends on the baby. I may only get to update this every couple of days or so. She's teething, so she demands a lot of attention right now. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to read my post.
